Is polyandry acceptable?

Seven years ago, when Manasvi eloped with Raj at the age of 15, nobody knew that her sweet love story will turn into a nightmare.

I remember when I met her for the first time,4 years ago,I could barely take my eyes off her.She was that beautiful.

Manasvi was living a happy life with her husband and their two kids. Manasvi was young, smart, bold and opinionated. she would always boast about her beauty.”My husband’s friends admire me a lot.”Her eyes were the most beautiful eyes in the world. But as they say ” Behind the most beautiful eyes, lay the secrets deeper and darker than the mysterious sea”.

From last few months, something was not going right with her.Sometimes she used to meet me for the evening walk. She was saying that Raj doubts her for everything.”Last day he saw my phone and threw it out of the window.May be I watsapp a lot.”

It’s not that Raj is wicked or something. He is a gentleman.Infact he has never treated Manasvi badly for these 7 years. He works really very hard to earn a living. He has given everything Manasvi has ever asked for.

One month ago, one day Manasvi talked to me about her childhood days, about her boyfriends during school days and how she used to manage everything.I asked if everything is fine now.She said she wanted to escape .She wanted to run away from this jail. I took it lightly.I regret now.

One week ago, it was 11:00 pm ,I heard some voice. Manasvi was crying for help. All the neighbours including me came to her rescue. Raj was drunk. He was trying to jump from the terrace. He almost did that when one of us heroically broke the doors and saved him. He punched Raj for such insanity. Raj kept on weeping. He said he was not wrong. This women was.(looking towards Manasvi). He pulled her hair and started beating her.

He has never been like that. His track record was very good .He was a man of character. We asked what has actually happened .He said he will tell tomorrow After that,he said nothing. He was too injured to say anything.

In the morning I personally met Raj and asked what has happened.” This lady took everything from me .Day before yesterday, she went shopping and didn’t return the whole night .she called me at 1:00 am that she will never come back. I searched her madly all night ,I even went to the railway station. In the morning she came back with a ticket in her hand.she said she was at the railway station”.

“I have captured the footage from the CCTVs where I saw her talking on phone for hours the whole week when I was out. On that day she went along with 3 people.” He said

From that day almost , everyday I see a new mark on Manasvi’s face and eyes . Neighbours doubt her loyalty. But I ask her “why are you quiet”?

No body knows where she went that night. No body knows the actual problem. No body is even supporting Manasvi. Some people say Manasvi had infidelity issues. Some people say that Raj had trust issues. I still ask “why is she quiet”?

PS: Domestic violence is illegal. (section 498a of the IPC). Adultery is illegal.(section 497 of IPC)

  1. She is quiet because may be no one will support her and she is not confident enough. But how do you write such stories. Is it a true story?

  2. That’s a sorry tale indeed. It sounds to me as if they both need guidance on the problems in their marriage.
Thanks for following my blog, which is much appreciated.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Silence is what kills us on the inside. Because we know what is right, we know that we should do it, but then again we don’t get the courage to say it. Because society has made sure that we can’t speak out. Especially, if it’s a woman.
Manasvi sounds like a nice person. She shouldn’t tolerate such treatment even it if from someone she loves or perhaps used to love.

I hope things turn out for the better for her.
And yeah, she needs to speak up. Silence is what encourages the culprit. Kindly support if you can.

  4. Hmmm… communication is one of the main keys to any relationship. I think they should both seek some sort of help.

  5. Hello, Nehavermaa. I liked your blog very much. From reading your text, one question popped on my myind. Is adultery illegal in India? Can people actually go to jail if they are caught having an affair?

    • Hello sir….Under Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code, “Whoever has sexual intercourse with a person who is and whom he knows, or has reason to believe to be the wife of another man, without the consent or connivance of that man, such sexual intercourse not amounting to the offence of rape, is guilty of the offence of adultery, …and he can be put to jail

    • Although adultery by definition refers to any extramarital incidence of sexual intercourse, the Indian law in its current form criminalizes only one form of adultery. It is illegal only if a man has sexual intercourse with a woman who is married, and he does not have the consent of the husband of the woman for the sexual activity. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.😃
